Work has been crazy and the new house and life have kept me real busy. How is life going for you all?

Yep! I actually did a muffler delete last week for my first real mod. It is *much* louder but they gave me a stock ISF exhaust they took off another car the week before to me for free jut in case I want to go back to LS quiet.

Work is busy, even though we can’t get any stock. Doing lots of driving in my spare time (covered almost 5000kms in August). The Juke is still demanding parts.

New place is completely furnished somehow. Only took 3 months to translate our 1500 sq ft to 3800.

It’s mostly age related parts. It has held up pretty good to the abuse I put it though. Nothing major has broken in spectacular fashion.

Not too bad here, all things considered. I’m starting to get my sea-legs under me in this remote learning stuff. Today I put the lower urethane half of my truck’s front bumper back on for the first time since ... February? I just realized I forgot to take any pics. I made a video of it though , to show my students.

I had a pretty decently productive weekend even though I had to work. I was on-call and ended up working something like 15 hours over the weekend.
Hoping for good job related news later this week so buttoning up a lot of projects to sell.

Yeah, you do have a *ton* of miles in not a lot of time for your Juke. I’ve always liked those things. I’ve actually been talking to the head of Corporate coms for Nissan the last month or so. Company isn’t looking great but they do have some good employees in there.

That’s great! I’m glad I live in Tennessee for reasons just like having to winterproof cars. Just soemthing else I do not have to work on.

Good job! I’m rolling off something like 5 weeks of working with a China/Singpore client that involved starting my workday with them(not my workday) at 8pm until 3 am. My day starting a few hours earlier. Get that good job.

Oh that is unpleasant, I worked overnights for a year when I was in college and it messed my sleep schedule up for years. Front desk at a hotel 11-7 and for years after if I stayed up after midnight I was awake until the sun came up.
Thanks for the well wishes - it looks good so far just waiting on paperwork. All goes well I’ll have a start date for a job in San Jose!
The move will be large and exhausting (in STL now) but it’s good for both my and the Mrs career.

Mondays are my Sunday - Nothing has to be done. And I’m retired so little or nothing gets done anyway... That being said, got the parts for the propane shutoff together and put the valve/ regulator fittings together. Listening to an Upfield BoT. Australian detective/mystery and shooting shots of cheap rum while we solve the worlds ills.
This is a saltwater boat so I’ll solder the new solenoid leads and cover with sealant and heat shrink . The joint tape I use is for gas (grey) not water (white). Tomorrow I’ll get the plumbing and soldering done, maybe.
The glassing of the companionway is going slowly. 20 or so layers on already and still a 1/4" to fill. Maybe 10 more, 2 at a time. At least it’s safe enough to get through hurricane season as is.
Galley sink faucet is getting wiggly. The IKEA butcher-block counter is rotting and needs replacement soon. That’s a multipart project - 1. remove refer plate, compressor, and plumbing, 2. refurb both salt- and fresh- water spigots, 3. replace vinyl hoses for water spigot, 3. cut and fit the oaken library-table counter top. Before we get back into the water, I need to gut the refer space insulation and fit a couple drawer sliders and shelf so I can mount an Engle or Domitec refer. It’ll be easier when the counter-top is off...

Your accounts of living on a boat always intrigue me. Also, I think I've asked this before buts what's a refer?

Life is basically fine. College isn't very fun when I can't really socialize safely and architecture classes take up so much time. Fortunately I got a project turned in early tonight.

Spent part of the weekend at the hospital dealing with a relative who decided to OD on fentanyl over Labor Day, otherwise fine. Better than him, anyway.

Little slow here. I should’ve been learning how to change the cabin air filter on the van but instead I’m learning how to crochet cat toys.
We’ll see which is more successful at teaching me patience.

Refrigerator. Hope the smoke stays inside... Right now, using a dormitory cube from Wally World. Old system needed to be in the water as the condenser was a block outside the hull. Frigobot 35. Want a smaller top-loading model on a slider . Might get a 2nd column of drawers in the saved space! And no hole in the counter top.

Glad to see you friend! Things go the same here...was hoping to potentially buy a house this year, but with COVID and the housing market going INSANE because of it (a house in a crappy part of Dartmouth just sold for over $100,000 MORE THAN ASKING), there’s no way I can afford anything right now...

So would the new unit have a condenser built into it instead of exterior mounted? I take it that it is near the sink to make refurbishing both one job. I’m intrigued as to why the new unit would take up much less space than the old one.
So you’re still working on Sparrow out of the water?

My galley is 6' long. 2.75' of that is stove. < 4' of counter space with the sink cut in. Right now, there’s also a hole for the top-load refer. Current condenser is behind the sink way low in the hull. The storage box is too large and has ~4" of insulation on all sides. (Kinja won’t let me post pics in replies...) Yea, once the counter comes off (well fastened down heavy thing), a lot of projects can commence.
Yes, hauled her last year for engine replacement. Then I stayed sick so things are going slower than they should. She was wet for 15-years so there are a lot of things I’m finding worn that also have to be fixed. Hurricane season now, anyway, and she is safer here.

Less than 4' of counter space including the sink hole AND the fridge hole? That’s not a lot of room for food prep. I can kind of picture it from one picture you posted last time we talked about Sparrow.
I’m also a little shocked by how complicated your fridge setup is but I guess everything is more complicated on a boat (and more expensive). I get the advantages of a hull mounted condensers though. It frees up space and cools more efficiently while generating less cabin heat.
Fr om what I understand 15 years in salt water is a pretty good run, especially for a small old boat like Sparrow. Even if a lot of things are broken and need refreshing so many more things could have gone wrong!
I’m just thinking of all the little things that have broken in my childhood home 15 years after its complete overhaul and renovation and trying to imagine not even having access to much of it because it’s in the water. Caulk wearing out, appliances failing, electrical components going kaput, roofs leaking, paint peeling, freak doorhandle failures, fence poles splitting down the middle, windows falling out of upper stories, AC systems becoming impossible to fix and necessitating re- engineering of the ducting system to fit . While it is 100 years old in parts, it’s been comparatively trouble- free compared to how it could have gone. And we don’t have to take it out of the ground to get at some bits. Here’s a visual from the pre-Rona days when I wasn’t off at college.
